Course Description
Exploration of the literary (re)creation of Rome's past through selected readings from Roman historical authors such as Sallust, Caesar, Livy, Tacitus, and Suetonius. Prerequisite: LAT 204 or permission of instructor

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Improve your Latin reading and comprehension and be able to read Latin with minimal help from a dictionary or commentary;
- Formulate and articulate effective analyses and arguments that are supported by critical engagement with primary and secondary sources;
- Describe the historical, literary, and stylistic qualities of Suetonius’ and Tacitus’ works and how their works fit into Roman history writing as a whole; and
- Speak and write in an informed manner on one Rome’s most (in)famous emperors: Nero.

Attendance and participation are a part of the students’ final grade and are required to both understand the material and succeed in the course.
