Course Description
Psychological factors and intervention strategies as they relate to the risk, experience, and treatment of athletic injuries from a biopsychological perspective. Prerequisite: KIN 644 or KIN 680 or KIN 745, Applied Sport Psychology concentration or Sport and Exercise Psychology concentration or P.B.C. in Mental Skills for Sport Coaching or permission of instructor.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Summarize and discuss the literature related to:
- Psychosocial risk factors (i.e. vulnerabilities) associated with injury risk and recovery.
- Psychosocial protective factors (i.e. strengths) associated with positive mental/physical health
- Psychological interventions (i.e., mental/coping skills training) for injury prevention and recovery
- Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills
- Select and use appropriate mental skill interventions (e.g. goal setting, relaxation, imagery, etc.)
- Identify psychological distress symptoms (e.g., mood and anxiety disorders, maladaptive coping, etc.) and make appropriate referrals to relevant professionals.
