Course Description

Theories and research related to sport psychology; individual differences, motivation and social influence processes related to sport and exercise behavior. Prerequisite: Introductory psychology or permission of instructor.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Describe key developments in the academic and professional discipline of sport and exercise psychology.

  • Compare foundational theories in sport and exercise psychology related to common factors and mental skills for optimal performance, promotion, and adherence.

  • Critique and synthesize sport and exercise psychology research.

  • Apply theoretical models and research findings to enhance sport, exercise, and physical activity experiences in kinesiology-related professional practice.
