Course Description
Survey of current theories and research in the sociological study of sport, physical activity, and exercise; focus on sport and major social institutions, social inequalities, and social change. Prerequisite: KIN 330, introductory sociology, or permission of instructor.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- To understand how social arrangements around race, class, gender, sexuality, and ability influence physical culture and everyday spaces of physical activity (school, exercise, and sport)
- To understand the significance of sociological and cultural analyses to the field of Kinesiology
- To become familiar with scholarly literature in sociology and cultural studies around bodies, physical culture, and sport
- To articulate (verbally and in writing) sociological and cultural analyses of bodies, physical culture, and sport
- To demonstrate critical, intellectual discussion skills, including the facilitation of discussion
