Internship Preparation in Kinesiology

Course Description

Professional preparation, planning, and placement for supervised internship experience (KIN 496). Prerequisite: 2.50 overall GPA, permission of instructor.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Prepare to participate in KIN 496 and KIN 713 internships by completing all application requirements and engaging in preparatory activities and discussions.
  • List and describe potential career paths within the field of Kinesiology.
  • Create professional documents including resume and cover letters.
  • Conduct informational interviews at potential internship sites.
  • Differentiate benefits between various professional certifications and organizations and identify the best fit for a planned career path.
  • Evaluate internship opportunities and select a placement for the following semester.
  • Prepare, search, and apply for professional jobs.

Attendance/Participation:

Attendance in class is very important. You are allowed 3 absences for any reason (no documentation needs to be provided). After the 3rd absence, your attendance grade will be dropped by 5% for each additional absence. It is your responsibility to keep up with your absences.

Being tardy to class (for any amount of time) without prior approval will be counted as ½ of an absence.

Students are expected to participate fully in-class activities. This means you should have completed all assignments prior to attending class and be prepared to discuss with your classmates.
