Course Description
Designing and implementing exercise instruction techniques for individuals and groups. Prerequisite: Grade of C- or higher in KIN 250, KIN 265, and KIN 220 (or sequence of KIN 120, KIN 130, KIN 220).

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Demonstrate a variety of instructional styles to meet the varying needs of individuals in physical activity settings.
Demonstrate effective organization and management in physical activity settings.
Communicate effectively with individuals and groups in physical activity sessions, both verbally and nonverbally.
Demonstrate an understanding of the legal aspects of physical activity instruction.
Conduct and evaluate initial screening and health appraisals and conduct interviews with individuals wanting to become physically active.
Assist individuals in developing, adapting, and evaluating personal physical activity goals.
Demonstrate proper techniques for a variety of physical activities, including, but not limited to, flexibility, resistance training, and cardiovascular activity.
Demonstrate and instruct techniques for accommodating various fitness levels and individuals with unique needs within physical activity settings.
Provide appropriate feedback to individuals and/or groups in physical activity settings.
Assess and evaluate personal and peer instructional techniques in a variety of physical activity settings.

Attendance/Participation:
Class will meet in person. These meetings will include time to review and discuss readings and assignments, meet with group members, and engage with the instructor and guest speakers. Attending these sessions is key to learning, and attendance is expected. Attendance will be taken daily. Because life happens, students may miss up to 3 in-person class meetings without penalty. Each additional absence results in a 10 percentage point reduction toward the final course point total.
