Strength Training and/or Conditioning Laboratory

Course Description

Lecture and/or lab course emphasizing the basic science underlying strength training and conditioning. Specific topics include program design, exercise techniques, strength, aerobic, speed and flexibility development, physical testing, and training adaptations. Corequisite: KIN 265.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Describe basic principles from the exercise sciences (e.g., physiology, biomechanics) in their relationship to performance of strength and conditioning activities.
  • Describe, demonstrate, and evaluate proper technique for strength and conditioning activities.
  • Demonstrate and interpret the results of selected standardized tests to assess various fitness components.
  • Explain the components and planning considerations of safe, effective exercise programs toward achieving performance goals.

Attendance/Participation:

Lab participation is worth 50 points and is graded at the full discretion of the lab instructor. These points are earned based on students’ level and manner of participation during the face-to-face lab meetings, which includes: 1) effort and interest toward learning the material, 2) wearing proper attire for exercise, and 3) engagement with the material and peers.
