Attendance/Participation:

To increase class participation and overall engagement in career exploration, you will demonstrate your engagement by participating in class discussions or completing a reflection assignment.

How this will look: 1) You will scan the QR for verification that you were physically in class. 2) When there is a guest speaker, you can engage by asking a question. Doing so will earn you career engagement/participation points for the day. If you prefer not to ask a question, you can instead submit a reflection on what you learned from the guest speaker by 11:59 pm that day. 3. On days without a guest speaker, you can earn your career engagement/participation points by asking a question during the lecture or activities. If you do not ask a question, you can instead submit a reflection on what you learned by 11:59 pm that day.

Three absences will be excused. Outside of that, if you are absent from class on any day we conduct a graded event (i.e., an exam or group discussion), you will earn 0 points. The only way to prevent earning 0 points is to provide me the documented-in-writing reason in advance of the class, and I will only grant approval for legitimately exceptional reasons. This would generally be under unusual circumstances beyond your control (e.g., wedding and you’re the maid of honor, varsity athlete scheduled for an away competition, military service).

Also regarding in-class graded events, if you have a legitimate emergency event (e.g., illness, injury, car accident on the way to school, death of an immediate family member) occur the evening before or the morning of a class period in which we are conducting a graded event, you must notify me of your absence as soon as possible, and within 24 hours you must send me some sort of official written documentation to substantiate your absence (e.g., note from medical authority in the case of illness or injury). Otherwise, you will earn 0 points for the missed exam or group discussion.
