Course Grading Information:

General philosophy and policy: (1) Grades are not gifts. They are not received, in a passive sense. Rather, they are earned through active student responsibility. You must earn your grade in this course. No student will receive an A grade merely for being present and/or giving their best effort. (2) The syllabus states the course standards and thus serves as a contract between the instructor and the student. Do not ask for an extra credit opportunity if you don’t earn the grade you desire. (3) If you believe you have a legitimate concern with any grade, address it with your instructor as soon as possible after the grade has been brought to your attention. Do not wait until the end of the course to raise a concern about a grade you earned earlier in the course (see paragraph 5.a.5 below). (4) If for some exceptional, documented reason you cannot be present for a graded event, you must arrange with the instructor to take the event as a make-ahead. (5) If you have a question about a specific grade, contact the instructor within seven (7) calendar days of the grade being posted. After the seven (7) days have elapsed, the grade is confirmed and will not be changed under any circumstance.

Attendance/Participation:

Physical activity courses require physical participation. Therefore, it is not possible to earn class attendance credit without physically participating during class. If you cannot physically participate, then the instructor will mark you as absent from that day’s instruction, regardless of whether you remain to observe from the sideline/courtside. Do not assume that it will be possible to successfully complete this course if you currently have, or incur during the course, a medical condition that will prevent you from physically participating in class for more than a day or two. If that becomes the case, then you must discuss your situation with the instructor as soon as possible. They will discuss your situation with the Activity Instruction Program Coordinator, who will make the final decision.

Neither UNCG nor the Department of Kinesiology carry accident insurance for students enrolled in physical activity courses. Rather, each student is responsible for any medical charges incurred resulting from an injury sustained while participating in class.

Course Materials Purchased by the Students:

You must have a personal tennis racquet for this course. If you do not currently own a racquet, you should purchase one by second week of class.
