Course Description

Study of the principles of scientific inquiry and its applications in information systems research. Topics may include different types of knowledge generation, foundations of theory and research design alternatives. Prerequisite: Admission to the Ph.D. in Information Systems or permission of the instructor.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Understand the process of Scientific Research
  • Develop critical perspectives on past and current IS research methods
  • Choose a promising research topic capable of producing a program of research
  • Identify interesting, novel, and important research problems
  • Explain the process of theory construction and make a research contribution
