Course Description

Examines the role of information technology to improve processes and business performance, analyze the interaction of business strategies, work processes, competitive markets, technology and people for effective IT management.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Discuss key issues facing IT leaders

  • Define the role of technology/information systems in effective business processes

  • Examine the various roles of information technology in an organization.

  • Develop an understanding of the factors that facilitate and inhibit IT and business alignment.

  • Analyze the critical role of information technology/systems in organizations and strategic issues IT executives face.

  • Describe methods to approach to develop and manage IT priorities.

  • Comprehend the complexities of planning IT in today’s environment.

  • Be able to propose specific tactics and approaches for effective planning in specific situations;

  • Be conversant with methodologies and approaches to facilitate effective planning and managing of IT.

  • Evaluate various elements of IT infrastructure and architecture.

  • Analyze digital technologies and current trends in their use for business purposes.

  • Be able to suggest effective ways to address specific IT management problems considering politics, user support, organizational conflictand extent of business alignment.

  • Assess different structures and processes for IT governance.

  • Examine various options for IT measurement and IS budgeting.

  • Analyze approaches for innovation and strategic applications using information technology.

  • Compare and evaluate various approaches for delivering IT applications.

  • Analyze different forms of outsourcing and offshoring IT function.
