Foundations for Analytics using Spreadsheets

Course Description

The course develops introductory spreadsheet skills. Topics focus on the creation of effective spreadsheets and reports and the management of datasets to solve business problems. Notes: Open to freshmen and other students seeking an introduction to computer usage.

  • Navigate , Select and Edit cells in Worksheet

  • Format Excel Worksheets

  • Compute using Excel Formula and Excel functions

  • Create Graphs, Charts and Tables

  • Search, Sort, Filter Data

  • Summarize Data through Frequency distributions and the measures of Central tendency and dispersion

Attendance/Participation:

Online students are required to participate in this class every week by submitting assignments every week. While online sections do not have mandatory synchronous lecture times, active weekly participation is required . This includes reviewing Canvas announcements daily , participating in virtual study groups , and submitting all weekly assignments on schedule.

Online students are assigned to weekly virtual study groups . Meeting minutes must be logged weekly by your designated group scribe via the Google form submission link.

The instructor reserves the right to drop or fail any online student who fails to submit work for 2 consecutive weeks, fails to acquire required access codes by Week 3, or remains non- participatory for more than 13 consecutive days.

Your professor reserves the right to refuse late submissions. All assignments for this course are submitted electronically and manual submissions are not accepted .

DUE DATES will not be extended for technical issues, this includes but is not limited to issues with computers , internet service, hardware or software .

QUIZZES and PROJECTS: Students have multiple attempts for the quizzes and projects . Take advantage of this by completing your assignments well before the due date so that you have ample time to resubmit after making corrections , and to avoid missing the due date .

EXAMS: Make - up exams are not offered to maintain fairness and consistency for all students.

Students are responsible for communicating with the professor at least two weeks in advance if they anticipate missing participation , assignments, or exams. In the event of an emergency , the student must communicate as soon as reasonably possible. Notification from the Dean of Students Office on the student’s behalf is acceptable and preferred .
