Foundations for Analytics using Spreadsheets

Course Description

The course develops introductory spreadsheet skills. Topics focus on the creation of effective spreadsheets and reports and the management of datasets to solve business problems. Notes: Open to freshmen and other students seeking an introduction to computer usage.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Navigating and editing Excel worksheets
  • Formatting professional worksheets
  • Formulating advanced logic, mathematical outputs, and summary functions
  • Designing graphs, dynamic charts, and data tables
  • Searching, sorting, filtering, and executing data audits
  • Constructing PivotTables and data visualizations for business applications

Attendance/Participation:

Mandatory Attendance: Attendance is required weekly and constitutes part of your participation grade.

On-Campus Sections: Meets once per week in Bryan 221. A seating chart is established after Week 1. Arriving 15+ minutes late counts as an absence.

Online/Asynchronous Sections: Mandatory weekly participation via study groups and online module submissions.

Administrative Drop Policy: The instructor reserves the right to drop or fail students who are non-participatory for more than 13 consecutive days, miss 2 consecutive classes, or fail to procure required digital software by Week 3.
