Course Description
First of three courses taken in conjunction with a UNCG Study Abroad Exchange. Focus on pre-departure basics, field study techniques, and goal setting for global engagement through cultural competency. Prerequisite: Acceptance to a UNCG Study Abroad Exchange Program; Notes: May repeated up to three times (for three different exchange experiences) for credit when topic varies for a total of 3 s.h.; however, may apply only once toward Liberal and Interdisciplinary Studies, B.A.: IGS concentration requirements; Grade: Pass/Not Pass (P/NP).

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- explain contemporary issues within a global framework
- demonstrate openness to engaging in diverse cultural situations
- identify personal and learning styles in preparation for studying in an educational environment different from UNCG
- explain how their forthcoming study abroad course work fits into their individual program(s) of study based on GEO advising and pre-departure orientation workshops offered as part of full cycle advising

All assignments in this course are submitted electronically via Canvas by the assignment deadline. Many modules are sequenced so that you must complete prior components in order to move forward. If you would like to work ahead, you may complete the modules at your own pace, as long as they are completed by the indicated deadlines.
This course is a Pass/Not Pass course which means you will not be assigned a letter grade for the course. Each assignment is assigned 5 points that you are awarded for completion. The points you receive for the activities & reflections are a means to evaluate completion and do not represent a letter grade.
Failure to obtain the full 55 points and pass this course will result in the cancellation of your participation on a study abroad program.
Late work is accepted in this course. The modules are timed to coincide with other pre-departure workshops and events, so please try your best to keep up with the due dates. Assignments can be re-submitted if your original submission is not fully complete or does not receive full points.
Attendance/Participation:
Attendance/participation is not a graded component included in the student's final grade for this course.
