Course Description
This course will provide an overview of sustainable design and the various systems that contribute to it, including the building arts, business, logistics, manufacturing, and energy production.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Develop awareness of global, social and economic issues impacting sustainable design.
Develop an interdisciplinary vocabulary related to sustainable design.
Demonstrate an understanding of approaches to sustainable design.
Demonstrate an understanding of sustainable design rating systems and product certification programs.
Develop critical thinking skills – reasoning, constructing sound arguments, evaluating the quality of evidence related to sustainable design.

Attendance/Participation:
This course is an asynchronous online course that does not have specific meeting times for which attendance would be considered. However, students are expected to participate actively throughout the course by meeting periodic deadlines for submitting work and contributing to the online course community through Canvas discussions.
Late work will result in an automatic 20% reduction and an additional 20% for each 24-hour period the assignment is late. If the assignment is due at 6:00 am on Monday and it is handed in at noon on Wednesday, 60% will automatically be deducted from the grade. Late work will not be accepted for quizzes, extra credit, or after the final exam period.
Course Materials Purchased by the Students:
Students are expected to have access to a computer with internet access in order to participate in this online asynchronous course. Course readings will be posted on Canvas and referenced in the course materials.
