Honors College Health and Wellness Seminar: Mindful Leadership

Course Description

An intensive focus on the intersection of health and wellness and information literacy, with explicit instruction in how to understand decisions as they impact the health and wellness of individuals or communities. Prerequisite: Restricted to students in Lloyd International Honors College; Note: May be repeated once for credit when topic varies.

  • Identify factors that contribute to physical, mental, and/or social health.

  • Demonstrate the connection(s) of different aspects of wellness to the overall health of an individual or population.

  • Critically evaluate information and media sources in a variety of formats.

  • Incorporate and cite sources accurately and correctly.

Honors College SLO:

  • Build critical oral communication skills using creative modes of learning that incorporate performance, improvisation, and play as part of developing social and emotional intelligence for greater global competency.

Course Specific SLOs:

  • Identify and define aspects of mindfulness that can be applied in daily personal and professional routines that support physical, mental, and or social well-being.

  • Demonstrate connections between dimensions of mindfulness and wellness and evaluate how they collectively influence individual and/or community health.

  • Reflect on personal values, beliefs, and behaviors to demonstrate self-awareness and articulate a mindful leadership identity.

  • Maintain structured mindfulness journaling and reflection activities throughout the course to document and demonstrate personal growth in self-awareness, mindfulness, and/or mindful leadership practice.

  • Apply and demonstrate mindful leadership practices, including presentmoment awareness, non-judgment, active listening, intentional response, and selfregulation, in real or simulated leadership scenarios to enhance communication, decisionmaking, and team dynamics.

  • Develop a Personalized Mindfulness Plan or Mindful Leadership Plan that integrates evidence-based strategies to support work-life balance and can be intentionally applied in both personal and professional daily life beyond the course.

  • Critically evaluate, integrate, and correctly cite research sources to support claims made in written and oral assignments.
