Course Description
An intensive focus on the application of mathematical reasoning to formulate and solve problems from a variety of contexts and real-world situations. Prerequisite: Restricted to students in Lloyd International Honors College. Open to freshmen only or can enroll by Written Permission.
Syllabus
Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Course-Specific SLOs
Think analytically by developing a deeper understanding of class, gender, and race, the relationships between them, and their roles in various social systems.
Synthesize information by working with texts to develop coherent arguments using different authors perspectives and to distill theoretical information into layman's terms.
Analyze and interpret data by learning to discern the underlying logic of academic arguments presented in text and as data, and engaging in critical discussions with the class and course materials.
MAC (Minerva’s Academic Curriculum) SLOs for Quantitative Reasoning
Interrelate real-world information with mathematical forms (e.g., with functions, equations, graphs, diagrams, tables, words, geometric figures).
Formulate and justify conclusions based on quantitative arguments.
Communicate the quantitative evidence of the argument.
Honors College SLO
Build critical oral communication skills using creative pedagogies and modes of learning that incorporate performance, improvisation, and play as part of developing social and emotional intelligence for greater global competency.
