Topics in 20th-century European history including World War I, its impact on European thought and culture, the origins of World War II, the movement for European Unity, the Cold War. Notes: May be repeated once for credit when topic varies.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Analyze historical duration, succession, and change in terms of human agency and larger systems or structures. (Historical Comprehension)
Use historical thinking to contextualize and analyze primary and secondary sources representing different points of view. (Historical Analysis)
Compare features and legacies (political, economic, social, etc.) of major European empires since the nineteenth century.
Analyze primary and secondary sources to gain deeper understanding of how and why modern European imperialism developed over time.
