Course Description

Varying topics in medieval culture and society chosen from the broad categories of political, social, economic, intellectual, or religious history. Notes: May be repeated once for credit when topic varies.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • to provide a general knowledge of the history of the United States, Europe, and the wider world (as we have defined our fields of concentration);
  • to teach students to think and read critically and thereby to develop the ability to analyze historical sources and to learn how to construct historical interpretations;
  • to improve students’ ability to communicate verbally, visually, and in writing; and,
  • to foster the ability to conduct objective historical research.

Attendance/Participation:

Regular class attendance is a responsibility and a privilege of university education. It is fundamental to the orderly acquisition of knowledge. Students should recognize the advantages of regular class attendance, accept it as a personal responsibility, and apprise themselves of the consequences of poor attendance.

Excessive unexcused absences will result in a lowered final grade. The professor reserves the right to drop students with more than 6 unexcused absences from the course.
