Topics in American History: Rewriting Southern Past

Course Description

Selected topics in American history at an introductory level. Topics may vary from colonial era through the twentieth century. This course stresses the analysis and interpretation of primary sources.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Analyze written texts to understand how they relate to particular audiences, purposes, and contexts as a way to inform one’s own writing and/or revision.
  • Create and revise written texts for particular audiences, purposes, and contexts.
  • Through oral or written reflection, demonstrate awareness of one’s writing choices as well as how one’s own writing contributes to ongoing conversations.

Attendance/Participation:

Attendance in class is mandatory. Students are allowed three absences, excused or unexcused, without an impact on their grade. After three absences, students will receive a zero for participation for that day. After ten absences, students will receive an automatic F for the course.
