This course explores the values and practices associated with cultural competence and cultural humility offering professional examples from within health science professions, also emphasizing critical reflexivity.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Understand the concept of cultural competence in healthcare and its significance for health education and promotion
- Explore the influence of culture on health beliefs, behaviors, and practices
- Examine the impact of cultural competency on patient-provider relationships and healthcare outcomes
- Develop strategies for delivering culturally relevant health education and promotion interventions
- Analyze case studies to apply cultural competence principles in healthcare settings
- Reflect on personal biases and assumptions that may affect culturally competent care
- Critically evaluate research literature on culturally relevant healthcare practices
- Collaborate with peers to develop culturally appropriate health education materials

Attendance/Participation:
Attendance and punctuality are professional behaviors that students are expected to demonstrate consistently as future healthcare professionals. Therefore, attendance in this class is evaluated on a Pass/Fail basis rather than through partial credit.
The attendance grade reflects whether the minimum attendance standard established for the course has been met, not how close a student comes to meeting that standard.
Students who meet the attendance expectations outlined in the Attendance Policy will receive full attendance credit. Students who do not meet these expectations will not earn attendance credit.
