Attendance/Participation:
Like all courses at the collegiate level, attendance and participation are necessary for success. Students are expected to attend every class and arrive on time. Attendance will be taken daily and absences and tardies recorded. To have an absence or tardy excused, you MUST provide a signed note to your Pathways instructors/Ms. Johnson or ask your parent/guardian to email Ms. Johnson (m_johns8@uncg.edu). If you only have one note and need to give it to the office, take a picture and send it to Ms. Johnson via email/Remind or ask the office staff to make a photocopy.
Here are some important reasons to attend regularly:
To complete graded classwork/activities, including accountability assignments for independent work days.
To avoid missing important information about upcoming assignments.
To demonstrate responsibility to Ms. Johnson as she considers job shadowing placements for next year.
To practice good time management by using class time productively.
To show that you are ready to take future college courses.
Students who accumulate unexcused absences or tardies may face disciplinary consequences from Ms. Johnson and/or the Middle College. This will also apply to students who fail to meet behavior expectations, for example by interacting inappropriately or disrespectfully with instructors or classmates, failing to engage fully and appropriately in class activities, being out of area or purchasing food without explicit permission, and/or demonstrating an ongoing lack of effort or maturity.
