Course Description
Study of the distribution and determinants of disease occurrence with emphasis on application to health education. Prerequisite: Public Health Education major or minor; or permission of instructor; Corequisite: MAT 115 or STA 108 or higher-level MAT or STA course.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Define epidemiology and understand its role in community health education.
- Explain fundamental epidemiologic concepts.
- Calculate and differentiate various measures of disease occurrence and surveillance.
- Identify the five major epidemiologic study designs and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses.
- Examine and appraise published epidemiologic studies.
- Conclude health education needs based on collected data.
- Assess associations between factors and diseases.

Attendance/Participation:
All students are expected to attend each class and stay for the whole class.
Attendance may be taken during selected classes through the concept and term map assignment.
