Course Description

Study of mental health issues and emotional well-being emphasizing mental disorders, stigma, and disparities in intervention approaches. Also covers social, emotional, and spiritual health and wellness.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Compare and contrast mental, social, emotional and spiritual health.
  • Identify characteristics that are considered to be indicators of positive mental health, emotional well-being, and spiritual well-being.
  • Discuss common mental disorders, clinical assessment, and several psychologically based intervention approaches.
  • Explain the role of stigma in treating mental health issues.
  • Analyze disparities in mental and emotional health promotion by race/ethnicity, class, and gender.
