Attendance/Participation:

In-person. Attendance and participation are graded through a single In-Class Work category worth 60 points (20% of the final grade). During some classroom sessions, students complete an in-class application activity, scored 4 (thoughtful and complete), 3 (partial), or 0 (missing). Roughly 15 items are collected across the semester, and the best 12 count, so a student may miss several sessions with no penalty. Because these items are completed in class, they cannot be made up, and a student cannot submit one for a session they did not attend; this category therefore records attendance and participation together without a separate attendance grade.

Tardiness is taken into account: the first late arrival carries no penalty, a second brings a warning, and a third or more results in a one-point deduction from the student's total.
