Infant-Toddler Learning in Inclusive Settings

Course Description

An examination of development in infancy and toddlerhood and strategies for facilitating very young children's growth and learning in early childhood care and educational settings. Field placement required. Prerequisite: HDF or SES major or permission of instructor; Note: Same as SES 607.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Evaluate current issues in the care and education of infants and toddlers across varied socio-cultural contexts. (NAEYC 1.1, EC1K2, EC2K6; RP A3, F1, F8)
  • Design and describe learning environments that stimulate all developmental domains of infants and toddlers with and without exceptionalities (NAEYC 2.1.11, 2.3.1, EC5S1, EC5S5, EC5S2; RP E1-6, edTPA)
  • Analyze the processes of development of infants and toddlers with and without exceptionalities (NCPTS 3.1; NAEYC 2.3.3; EC7K2, EC5S6, edTPA)
  • Demonstrate how to use appropriate standards for teaching young children by matching instructional goals to lesson plan activities (NCPTS 3.1, edTPA)
  • Apply and appraise strategies to facilitate development and learning opportunities for infants and toddlers in early care and education settings. (NAEYC 2.1, 2.1.1, 4.1.1, 2.1.12; EC4S1, EC7S2, EC7S7, EC8S5; NCPTS 4.1, 4.4; RP E1-6, INS1-13, INT1-5, edTPA)
  • Synthesize core federal and state requirements relating to the care and education of very young children including Part C services and Quality Rating and Improvement Systems (NAEYC 10.0, RP L12).
