Current Developmental Theory and Research

Course Description

Seminar designed to examine current issues in development. Emphasis placed on current research literature, theories, and applications across the lifespan. Writing and editing are emphasized. Prerequisite: HDF 202, HDF 203, HDF 204, and C- or better in HDF 375; 2.50 GPA in the major.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental principles and theories that guide developmental and educational research.
  • Critically evaluate research presented in professional journals and in the popular press.
  • Address a current issue in the study of human development and link theories to student’s current intellectual agenda using the principles of good scientific writing.

The total points for this course are 100. Assignments are due by 11:59 P.M of the date written in the syllabus. Canvas window will close after a two-day grace period and no late assignments will be accepted. Generally, grades will be posted to Canvas within one week. Attendance/Participation:

Class attendance is part of the learning process. If you must miss class, follow the syllabus and contact a peer for notes. After two absences, you will lose 5 points for each additional missed day. Group work, peer editing, and class discussions are part of this course, thus, your absences impact others. In addition, once you have missed more than 2 class sessions, the late policy will no longer apply to assignments.
