The midterm grade period occurs each semester between the fifth and sixth week of classes. During this time, a midterm grade will be assigned as a snapshot of current academic performance. Students with a D or F at midterm should discuss strategies and options with the instructor and academic advisor.

Arrangements for accepting late assignments or exams will only be made in unusual circumstances and only if the student contacts the instructors prior to the due date for the assignment to explain the situation.

Attendance/Participation:

Class participation is expected in the synchronous classes and will be factored into the course grade. Participation requires completion of readings and activities noted in the weekly modules and active participation in class activities and discussions.

Students who must be absent from synchronous class sessions should notify the instructor ahead of time. Absence from class will be taken into consideration when assigning a final grade for the course.

Unless a student receives prior permission in writing (via email from the instructor), 2 points will be deducted for an absence; 1 point will be deducted if late (over 5 minutes) or leaving early (more than 5 minutes). Missing 2 classes without permission will reduce the final letter grade (e.g., an earned A will be deducted to a B). Missing 3 classes will result in a failing grade.

Failure to abide by the attendance and participation policy may result in being dropped from the course at the instructor’s discretion. Students who stop participating and do not contact the instructor to withdraw may fail the course.
