Course Description

Examination of parenting behaviors from infancy through young adulthood across family, context, and culture. Explores how political, social, and cultural systems shape parenting choices, options, and experiences.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of theories and research relevant to parenting behaviors, parent-child relationships, and child development.

  • Discuss cultural influences on parenting behavior.

  • Describe how parents’ development and life experiences impact parenting behaviors over the life course.

  • Explain the impact of culturally diverse parenting behaviors on child development.

  • Question the source(s) of their own beliefs and values regarding parenting as derived from personal history and cultural background.

A 5% grade deduction per day will be automatically applied to all late submissions. Late submissions cannot surpass 7 days; after that assignments will be locked, and students will receive 0 for the assignment.

NOTE: ALL ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED BY Monday, December 7th.

Attendance/participation is not a graded component included in the student's final grade for this course.
