An examination of development from early through late adulthood across family, context, and culture. Explores individual and systemic variability in development and well-being.

  • Demonstrate familiarity with basic concepts relating to adulthood and aging issues.
  • Compare societal and individual aging in the US and other regions of the world today.
  • Identify factors that contribute to health and wellness among adults of all ages.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of aging in a family context.
  • Analyze trends and probable effects of societal aging in relation to societal structures including gender, race and ethnicity, socioeconomic class, and family.

Attendance/Participation:

This class is fully online. Attendance and participation are tracked by accessing Canvas and completing assignments on time. There are no required face to face meetings. Please check your emails and Canvas EVERY DAY to stay current. Set your phone to receive class emails and Canvas Announcements.

If you are facing a situation that leads to your missing more than 3 quizzes / assignments, you must: (a) let the instructor know via email describing your situation and (b) contact the Dean of Students (deanofstudents@uncg.edu) to seek assistance and come up with a plan for the semester. If you don’t do this, your grade will be negatively affected above and beyond loss of quiz points, and you may be dropped from the course.

Please note the dates / times of quizzes and assignments carefully. If you miss a deadline, there are no make-ups. If you will miss for a university-approved reason, please let the instructor know ahead of time and accommodations can be made.
