Course Description

An examination of development from conception through middle childhood across family, context, and culture. Explores variability in individual development and factors related to health and well-being.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of core child development theories, themes, concepts, and research methods.
  • Show understanding of concepts and principles of development relating to biological, physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development during childhood.
  • Demonstrate understanding of developmental differences across families, cultures, and contexts.
  • Apply critical thinking to interpreting information about child development from literature, research, textbook, lectures, videos, and group discussion.
  • Synthesize ideas and present evidence-based arguments in written communication.
