Course Description

An examination of development from conception through middle childhood across family, context, and culture. Explores variability in individual development and factors related to health and well-being.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the interaction between biological and environmental factors that influence children’s academic , emotional ,

    mental , social, and physical health trajectories .

  • Demonstrate understanding of cultural variability in families of young children and its implications for children’s academic , emotional , mental ,

    social, and physical health outcomes.

  • Integrate information about child development from the textbook , research articles , lectures, videos, social media and or group discussions.

  • Apply information from this class to future experiences including parenting , teaching , and professional occupations serving families and children.
