Course Description

Advanced theories, models, and practices of sustainable transportation planning with an emphasis on U.S. urban transportation systems.

Syllabus

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Describe and evaluate the geographic distribution, functions, and interactions of multimodal transportation networks in North America and assess their impacts on urban accessibility, mobility, and transportation equity.
  • Apply and analyze transportation planning models, methods, and analytical tools to investigate urban transportation problems and support planning decisions.
  • Examine and assess the political, social, economic, and environmental factors that shape transportation systems and influence transportation policy and planning outcomes.
  • Critically evaluate emerging challenges and opportunities affecting the future development of urban transportation systems, including technological innovation, demographic change, climate change, and sustainability concerns.
  • Develop and justify sustainable transportation planning strategies that promote efficient, affordable, accessible, and environmentally responsible urban transportation systems.
  • Formulate evidence-based transportation plans or policy recommendations that integrate sustainability principles, stakeholder considerations, and planning objectives to address contemporary urban transportation issues.
