Course Description
Overview of major research themes in geography. Student will meet faculty and other professional geographers, facilitating the development of research through field experience, colloquia, and conferences. Prerequisite: Admission to graduate program in geography; Notes: Grade: Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U).

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Identify and evaluate the teaching, research, and professional activities of GES faculty through participation in faculty presentations and departmental events.
- Engage professionally with the academic and broader geographic community by attending departmental, campus, and student organization events that support professional development and networking.
- Demonstrate awareness of current research, emerging issues, and professional practices in geography, environment, and sustainability through participation in departmental colloquia.
- Critically reflect on scholarly presentations and discussions by connecting ideas presented in colloquia and professional events to their own academic and professional interests.
- Develop professional networking skills through interactions with faculty, students, researchers, and practitioners at departmental events and professional conferences.
- Recognize the role of professional organizations and conferences in advancing scholarships, career development, and professional engagement within geography, environmental studies, GIS, and related fields.
- Apply principles of professional engagement and lifelong learning by actively participating in conferences, workshops, and other opportunities that contribute to their academic and career development.
