Environment and Experience: Glocal Agriculture

Course Description

Consideration of an environment or place emphasizing sustainability and experiential learning. Involves readings/lectures on ecological, economic, social, and aesthetic aspects; field work and/or travel; and reflective, synthetic, and/or research writing. Prerequisite: GES 162 or permission of instructor; Notes: May be repeated when the topic varies for up to 9 s.h. of credit in the major.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of agriculture and its connections to local food environments
  • Apply civic engagement concepts by participating in at least one community-based activity related to course themes.
  • Analyze real-world food and agricultural systems by integrating insights from research and interactions with farmers and community partners.
  • Evaluate their role and impact in community engagement through structured written or oral reflections.
