Course Description
Survey of human molecular genetics and current clinical methods used for the diagnosis of human genetic disorders. Special emphasis given to the molecular principles, interpretations, and limitations of these tests.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Understand the principles that underlie a variety of genetic tests;
Understand the value and limitations for these tests;
Interpret results for various methodologies;
Understand sensitivity, specificity, and predictive value of tests;
Understand the intended use of tests for screening, diagnostic, carrier and/or predictive testing.
