Course Description

Introduction to literature in genetic counseling including dissection of literature for critical assessment and application in clinical and research settings. Review of research methodology for preparation to be both consumers and producers of research.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Critically assess genetic/genomic, medical and social science literature and information

  • Plan and execute a thorough search and review of the literature

  • Evaluate and critique scientific papers and identify appropriate conclusions by applying relevant research methodologies and statistical analyses

  • Demonstrate understanding of the research process

  • Characterize various components of research design and methodology

  • Assess research design methods for appropriate application to hypotheses and specific aims
