Application of concepts related to genetic and genomic medicine with an emphasis on genetic counseling and the general public. Implementation of activities, discussion and peer learning for development of person and professional.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Identify various personal attributes or factors that may influence a genetic counseling session

  • Discuss client-centered attributes or factors that may influence a genetic counseling session

  • Identify and employ methods for client-centered communication

  • Critically assess current representations of genetics, genetic disease, and genetic testing in the public sector

  • Discuss challenges encountered in dissemination of genetic counseling services and strategize approaches to address challenges

  • Assess methods for communication and education based on identified needs of an audience

  • Understand the process and influencing factors in clinical supervision
