Course Description
Impact of genetic disorders on patients and families, structure and function of support groups, and role of allied health professionals in evaluation, treatment and referral of patients with genetic disorders. Prerequisite: Enrollment in MS genetic counseling program.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Evaluate the psychosocial impact of genetic conditions and disabilities on patients and families
Identify, incorporate, and communicate appropriate support groups and community resources in counseling practice
Collaborate effectively with other allied health professionals in the evaluation, treatment, and referral of individuals with genetic disorders
Apply principles of disability education and advocacy
