Course Description

This course introduces theory and practices related to the optimal allocation of funds among assets, popular asset pricing models, technical and fundamental analysis for return prediction, and valuation of stocks. Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in FIN 315.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Possess a thorough knowledge of available investment products and the risk/return characteristics of each.
  • Understand the investment process and create a portfolio that meets the specific needs of a given investor.
  • Be able to calculate the intrinsic value of equity and fixed income securities and estimate the expected returns of each.
  • Understand the various markets for these securities and the types of transactions that occur in these markets.
  • Conduct the economic, industry and company-specific research necessary to make informed investment decisions.
