Intermediate Statistical Methods in Education

Course Description

Applied descriptive and inferential statistics. Topics include applied probability, power analysis, chi-square distributions, hypothesis testing for a variety of applications, and correlation and regression. Concept learning, applications, and computer analyses are stressed. Prerequisite: Elementary algebra; Notes: Students who took this course as ERM 618 are not eligible to take ERM 780 and receive credit.

Syllabus

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Explain and apply fundamental statistical concepts, terminology, and notation used in quantitative research.
  • Use SPSS to organize, analyze, and interpret quantitative data.
  • Compute, summarize, and graphically represent data using descriptive and exploratory statistical techniques.
  • Conduct and interpret statistical hypothesis tests, including analyses involving categorical data, group comparisons, associations, and prediction.
  • Critically evaluate and carry out a basic quantitative study by applying principles of sampling, probability, statistical power, data analysis, and results interpretation.
