Chamber Music: Jazz

Course Description

Group study and performance of selected chamber music literature/jazz combo literature (non-conducted) with emphasis on development of independent chamber music performance skills. Personnel and repertoire assigned by performance faculty. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor; Notes: May be repeated for credit when repertoire varies.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • The rehearsal and performance student and faculty arrangements for chamber (small) jazz ensemble.
  • To improve repertoire and transcribe an arrangement
  • To improve improvisational skills
  • Gain experience playing in a small jazz group

Attendance/Participation:

Students’ attendance will be dropped by one letter grade for every unexcused absence.

Three times being late to class will add up to a lowered letter grade.
