Chamber Music

Course Description

Group study and performance of selected chamber music literature/jazz combo literature (non-conducted) with emphasis on development of independent chamber music performance skills. Personnel and repertoire assigned by performance faculty. Prerequisite: Permission of Instructor; Notes: May be repeated for credit when repertoire varies.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Demonstrate skills intrinsic to performing without a conductor in a small group setting, including balance, tone, intonation, reading and interpreting rhythms accurately, and understanding and adapting to varying styles;

  • Employ learned performance techniques in rehearsals, coachings and performances to the best of their abilities;

  • Incorporate a standard repertoire into their knowledge base of literature over the semesters; and,

  • Function independently as well as within a team, practice discipline, and enhance skills in acting responsibly and dependably, and;

  • Evaluate progress, diagnose, and develop strategies for improvement for independent chamber music performance.
