Course Description

Exploration of selected topics in the study of rhetoric and composition.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • To recognize and apply the research methodology needed for the critical study of the literatures, rhetoric, or language of English.
  • To identify and discriminate among literary, rhetorical, or linguistic theories and history to inform the critical study of English.
  • To recognize and summarize the multiple fields of English and the current issues within them.
  • Develop varied modes of inquiry informed by the relationship between theory and practice, knowledge and action. (WGSS marker)
  • Demonstrate understanding of power from historical, geopolitical, ethical and psychological perspectives within global, national, and community contexts. (WGSS marker)

Attendance/Participation:

Students will receive 1% point toward their final grade for each class session that they attend and in which they actively participate up to 12% of their final grade.

One class session/percentage point can be earned in an alternative manner on an as-needed basis to reach the full 12% for the attendance and participation grade.
