Course Description
Introduction to doctoral studies and scholarly inquiry. Students will consider their development as a scholar and explore the attitudes, assumptions, and practices that underlie scholarly inquiry in the field of education, with an emphasis on educational leadership.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Identify the policies, procedures and expectations that govern the EdD programs in the Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations department.
- Explore the idea of reflective scholarship.
- Conceptualize research that relates to current literature and scholarship in education with a specific emphasis on educational leadership, organizations, and reform.
- Gain an understanding of the different facets of a major research project that culminates in a dissertation.
- Develop competency writing in a scholarly style.
- Apply strategies learned in order to develop a pre-preliminary research proposal.
- Identify a potential topic of interest that sparks individual excitement.

Attendance/Participation:
Attendance and participation is required as part of expectations for doctoral level education. While students are expected to attend all course meetings it is not an explicitly graded item. Students are responsible for making up missed work in class should they miss.
