The nature of theory, definition, utilization; contemporary theories applied to educational administration; system theory and its application possibilities to educational administration.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Describe the qualitative dissertation research process
- Explain different approaches to qualitative research and the use of theory in research
- Identify and analyze theories that researchers have used to study your topic as well as discuss how you plan to draw on theory in your dissertation
- Evaluate how educational research engages with relevant theories
- Deepen your knowledge base around appropriate educational theories that align with your research purposes, questions, and goals
- Develop competency in writing literature reviews and descriptions of theory in a scholarly manner
- Apply accumulated knowledge and skills to complete a working draft of your dissertation proposal in accordance with the ELC EdD Dissertation Guidelines

Attendance/Participation:
Attendance and participation is required as part of expectations for doctoral level education. While students are expected to attend all course meetings it is not an explicitly graded item. Students are responsible for making up missed work in class should they miss.
