Course Description

The historical and social purposes of schooling in a democratic society. Enrollment limited to students who are pursuing initial teaching licensure. Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program; Notes: May be repeated for unlimited credit.

Syllabus

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

  1. Examine different historical and social dimensions of schooling in the U.S.

  2. Explore concepts of democracy and democratic education through critical and arts-based educational philosophies.

  3. Engage in creative inquiry to construct proposals for pedagogical practice and educational change, informed by course objectives 1 and 2.
