Course Description
A pedagogy theory course in pilates that develops knowledge and capacity to teach beginning and intermediate level mat exercises. Pilates competencies focus on core strength, breath and spinal flexibility while challenging upper body strength, range of motion in the hips and spine, spinal extension and inverted balance. Prerequisite: DCE 632.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Embody advanced Pilates exercises, including scapular stabilization, spinal alignment, and flexibility, to be demonstrated in the practice of advanced Pilates movement sequences and teaching practice.
- Demonstrate pedagogical competence in critical thinking and movement literacy by teaching a class to be assessed through group instructional practice at Midterm and again in the Final exam.
- Design complex Pilates instruction that facilitates knowledge of healthy anatomical function, progressions, and safety informed by research to be demonstrated in class participation, applied to midterm and final presentations.
- Examine the Pilates movement for somatic and anatomical function to be demonstrated through instructional practice, written planning activities, reflection at Midterm, and again in the Final exam.
- Analyze the Pilates movement for participant limitations and injury prevention to be demonstrated in ongoing instructional practice and reflection in the Final exam.
