Contact Improvisation

Course Description

Development of improvisational performance skills for advanced dancers through a thorough study of Contact Improvisation. Prerequisite: DCE 217 or permission of instructor; Notes: May be repeated for credit.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the body in relation to other bodies and space.
  • Apply corrections and feedback to improve contact improvisation technique.
  • Improvise and perform contact-based movement safely while making creative choices.
  • Demonstrate commitment, engagement, and responsibility in course assignments and activities.
  • Apply movement principles in ways that support individual anatomical needs and artistic approaches.
  • Assess individual progress through self-reflection.

Attendance/Participation:

Attendance and active participation are expected. The School of Dance requires an 80% participation rate to receive credit for the course. Students who do not meet participation requirements may be required to repeat the course. Students who accrue 9 absences will automatically fail the course.
