Yoga: Somatic Practice

Course Description

The study of Yoga as a somatic physical artform. Yoga focuses on alignment, sequencing of poses, and yoga philosophy through the study of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. Notes: May be repeated once for credit.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Demonstrate practice of yoga asanas (poses) as a physical art form.
  • Explain how yoga functions in a broader context to support individual goals and well-being.
  • Apply yoga practices to performance settings.
  • Articulate how yoga functions as a historical physical art form.

Attendance/Participation:

Students are expected to attend all classes and actively participate in course activities.

The School of Dance requires an 80% participation rate to receive credit for the course.

Up to two absences are excused.

Two late arrivals or early departures count as one absence.
